In general, after the urologist tells you that you are sterile after a vasectomy, there is no practical reason to do repeated, unwarranted semen checks. As the chances of recanalization are 1 in 2000, doing ongoing semen tests may be an exercise in futility. However, if you feel it will comfort concerns you have, then you'd request a post-vasectomy semen analysis by your urologist or community hospital lab.

The most common recommendation is to ejaculate 15 times using contraception. Bring the 16 and 17 ejaculations to the urologist for a semen examination under the microscope. If there is no sperm seen on BOTH of these examinations, you would be considered sterile.
